We are well into the swing of 2021, and I invite you to take to take a few minutes to look back at the extraordinary year that was 2020 and share our vision for Piety Group for the year ahead.
First, thank you for the support you have shown us during the challenges created by 2020’s global pandemic. As with many businesses, Piety Group faced unexpected and complex obstacles, but our exceptional team took them in their stride. In uncharted territory, our staff demonstrated outstanding commitment, going above and beyond, enabling us to navigate the changed landscape.
I am immensely proud of the agile and collaborative response of our team, not only in minimising the fallout from COVID-19 on our business but ultimately for finding solutions that will make an enduring contribution to Piety Group’s success into the future.
Our business continues to expand and improve its operational and work practices, with many pipeline projects crucially under-pinned by our core values of integrity, quality and innovation that have formed the basis of Piety culture since the company’s inception.
One of the things we love to do at Piety Group is to celebrate our wins, big and small, with our team members and our partners across the industry.
In completing our Lidcombe development, a total of 1,300 apartments have been brought to market since 2015. We adeptly navigated the COVID-19 restrictions and celebrated successful settlements with our Lidcombe residents, with safety protocols in place.
In response to the restrictions caused by the pandemic, we were able to continue to offer inspections to buyers via virtual tour technology and carefully staggered private inspections.
Our joint-venture partnerships in Wollongong and Hurstville both reached major milestones, with each structure reaching its “highest point” of construction. The project teams, together with their sub-contractors, delivered premium residential structures which were proudly celebrated with a long-awaited “topping out” ceremony.
I thank everyone for their tremendous hard work. We look forward to fitting out and commissioning these beautiful apartments over the next few months.
Piety Group were honoured to receive industry recognition as finalists in the UDIA, INDE, Urban Developer, and Urban Taskforce Awards, and were the Silver Medalist for Architecture in the Sydney Design Awards across our projects in Lidcombe, Rockdale and Wentworth Point.
Building on our established successes, our strategy sees us working hard to complete existing projects, seek out and embrace new opportunities to deliver innovative solutions and practices that further enhance our offering. Our pipeline projects of over $535 million are progressing steadily and forecasted to launch by mid-to-end of this year. Our business is stronger than ever, and we look forward to ongoing growth this year.
For new projects underway, we have embraced the latest property innovations, including digital display suites, to showcase the off-the-plan designs to buyers in the most immersive manner possible.
A primary focus of our design and construction divisions continues to be sustainability and environmentally-conscious practices and technologies. An example is our collaboration with the University of Technology, Sydney to develop a wastewater recycling system with flow-on benefits for decreased water consumption.
The safety and well-being of our employees, their families, our contractors, partners and the community remains an ongoing priority for Piety Group. Health and safety was a major focus in 2020 and continues to be at the core of decision-making and practices across our business.
Our progressive approach to safety saw the roll-out of Blue Glue, a safety innovation system, across all our construction sites to ensure a secure working environment. We are also working collaboratively with Procore, providers of cloud-based construction management software, to manage all our Environmental, Health Safety and Quality (EHSQ) information.
An adaptive and effective team culture is critical to our business success. Thus, despite the challenges that the pandemic placed on businesses more widely, we have increased our staff numbers by over 18% since the beginning of 2020, to support Piety Group’s business growth. Recent key senior appointments include:
Guided by our philosophy of encouraging adaptivity and personal growth, we are also conducting job-specific skills training for each department.
Introduced in response to the COVID restrictions, remote working has become a continuing feature of our day-to-day operations. In implementing this change, we not only minimised the impact of the pandemic, but helped to streamline location-fluid interactions between team members that will provide efficiencies into the future.
A core commitment of the Piety Group is giving back to our community. We have partnered with Bear Cottage, a special place dedicated to caring for children with life-limiting conditions and their families. Located on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, the Cottage cares for children from NSW and across Australia. In addition to running Christmas initiatives in partnership with the Cottage, we have just started stage 1 of an 8-part restoration of the external building.
We are also partnering with some other smaller charities and encourage our staff and partners join with us in supporting these causes. Donation boxes are available at all our work sites. Please contact us for more information on how you can become involved.
It is my great privilege to lead a team with such a collaborative, unified vision, strengthened by our core values of integrity, quality, and innovation.
I wish you all the very best for a safe and successful 2021.
